A Plustronics TVRC 7D combined 7" b&w TV, radio and tape cassette player / recorder. With its UHF & VHF TV frequencies, VHF, LW & MW radio frequencies, battery & mains operation, it's a very versatile 'Unputdownable'. It was advertised in the above 1980-81 Plustronics catalogue and one can be seen standing upright on the catalogue cover (above left - to the rear of the images, just in front of the TV set). The one shown left has recently (February 2009) been purchased by Alistair Lark off eBay for a modest £5.50p. Alistair says "It is in full working order, solidly built & after a thorough cleanup, in superb condition!" Charles Strasser and John Kirk both agree that the unit originated from the Japanese company Orion Electric, then owned by Mr. Otake. Charles recalls "He was a real Samurai style Japanese entrepreneur and I loved doing business with him over many years. Most of the Plustron units were designed over dinner, somewhere in Japan, on the proverbial back of a cigarette packet and he would have wooden mockups for approval ready almost always the next day. Orion is today probably one of the world's largest suppliers of OEM electronic products in the world. See http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Orion_Electric." |
